Harihar Fort

If you like to climb forts, then you must visit Harihar Fort. This fort is one of the most difficult forts to climb in Maharashtra due to its steep ascent and vertical steps. Historical records suggest that this fort was built somewhere between the 9th and 14th centuries by Yadava dynasty kings. The main purpose of this fort was to overlook and keep an eye on the trade route that passed through Gonda Ghat.
The fort has an almost vertical rock climb with steep steps leading to the entrance of the fort. The entrance is called Darwaja. You must climb around 100 steps very carefully. After climbing these steps, you will reach a type of plateau region, where there are two temples.
You must attempt to climb the fort only if you are not afraid of heights. Trekkers from India come to trek up Harihar Fort as it poses a huge challenge to them. But once you are at the fort, you can view the surrounding hills.
The trek starts from the base village. Two villages serve as the base for the Harihar Fort Trek. One is Harshewadi and the other is Nirgudpada. Harshewadi is located 13 km from Trimbakeshwar. Due to this, the fort is also called Harihargad Fort.
The trekking route starts with an easy trek through scrub forest. Then it reaches a ridge that is connected to the fort. The ascent to the fort becomes difficult at this stage. There are rock steps that are almost 80 degrees. You must have training in climbing hilltop forts in Maharashtra to attempt to climb this fort. The rocky steps turn very slippery during the rainy season.
