The National Green tribunal has taken this great green initiative so that our holy Ganga River can be saved from the high-amount of pollution.

“No Development / No Construction Zone”

To stand firm on its decision, now the area within the 100 meters of River Ganga is called as the “No Development / No Construction Zone”. The gathering of a large number of people on this day itself says about its sacredness and popularity.

  • ★ Haridwar
  • ★ Nasik
  • ★ Ujjain
  • ★ Allahabad (Prayag)

A large number of people not only from India but also from foreign countries also take part with full devotion in this grand event.

Do you know about the History of Kumbh Mela? The Origin of Kumbh Mela has huge importance among Indians. There is a big and interesting story of Amrit Manthan behind the Kumbh Mela History.

The Origin of Kumbh Mela:

Origin of Kumbh Mela

Let’s discuss how and when was this grand event Kumbh Mela get started. According to mythology, there is a story of the curse of Durvasa Muni that led to the beginning of this grand event Kumbh Mela.

Once Durvasa Muni cursed the Demigods. Due to his curse, they lost their strength. The didn’t stop there and approached Lord Brahma and Lord Shiva in order to regain their strength. Both of them Lord Brahma and Lord Shiva gave advice to Demigods that they need to pray Lord Vishnu to regain their strength.

Lord Vishnu asked them to churn the ocean of milk which was then known as Ksheera Sagar in order to get Amrit. It was the only solution to regain their strength back, but this task was so sturdy for all of them. Since the demigods had not enough power and strength to do this task alone, they made a mutual agreement with Demons. The Demons were agreed to help them at only one condition. The condition was that they had to share half of the nectar of immortality (Amrit) with them.

The Meru Mountain played the role of churning rod to churn Ksheera Sagar. The king of serpents “Vasuki” played the part of rope around the mountain.

Fourteen unique items were produced through the process of churning-

  • ★ Poison
  • ★ Kamdhenu (also known as wish-fulfilling Cow)
  • ★ Uchchaihshravas (A kind of White Horse)
  • ★ Airavat (An elephant having four tusks)
  • ★ Koustubha mani (A diamond)
  • ★ Parijat Kalpavruksha (A wish-fulfilling tree)
  • ★ Devanganas such as Rambha etc
  • ★ Shri Lakshmi Devi (Consort of Shrivishṇu)
  • ★ Sura (Alcohol)
  • ★ Som (Moon)
  • ★ Haridhanu (A Divine bow)
  • ★ A Conch
  • ★ Dhanwantari
  • ★ Amrit Kalash or Amrit Kumbh (Pot of Amrit).

The Gods had fear in their mind that if the Demons became immortal by drinking Amrit, they will definitely create havoc in the whole world. Therefore, hen Dhanwantari appeared with Amrit Kalash in her hands, the Gods gave a signal to the Indra’s son, Jayant, to take that pot from Dhanwantari.

To get that Amrit Kalash, the Demons and Gods fought around 12 days as well as 12 nights. The one day of that time is considered to be equal to one year of the present time. During this battle, the few drops of Amrit fell down at four places of Earth. The places were Prayag, Haridwar, Ujjain, and Nashik. That is why Kumbh Mela is celebrated every 12 years on these four places. This is the story behind the origin of Kumbh Mela.

कुंभ के दौरान कर सकेंगे मुफ्त में बस का सफर, यूपी के हर डिपो से इलाहबाद के लिए चलेंगी बसें

bus services at kumbh mela

Kumbh 2019: Dress code for boatmen, guides and taxi drivers

Kumbh Mela Dress Code

The forthcoming Kumbh Mela is expected to stand out for the warm and courteous welcome the pilgrims will receive from service providers like vendors, boatmen, guides and taxi drivers etc.

The Kumbh Mela 2019 administration and UP tourism department have already begun to teach etiquettes and manners to these service providers so that they can welcome the pilgrims in the best possible way.

The Kumbh is to be held between January and March 2019.

“These service providers will be provided a particular dress, to be decided later, and the logo of Kumbh Mela and UP tourism department will adorn the dress,” said Dinesh Kumar, deputy director, UP tourism department.

This will be for the first time that service providers will be in a particular dress, he said.

“Due to security concerns, and for creating a tourist-friendly image of the temporary city in the Kumbh Mela area, we have decided to train vendors, boatmen, guides, taxi drivers etc so that they treat the visitors with utmost respect. These trained men will be given uniform so that they can be easily identified from the vendors etc who have not received training by the government department. The idea is to make the trip of pilgrims and tourists comfortable and safe,” he added.

According to Kumar they plan to train 600 boatmen, 600 vendors, 600 guides and 600 taxi, tempo and battery van drivers who would be deputed in the mela area.

“The training would be held between October and December. These men would be later provided a uniform. The colour of the uniform is being discussed and it would most likely be different for each category of service providers. The tourism department has proposed a budget of Rs 2.44 crore for this,” he said.

The officer further informed that out of the proposed budget, the government has already approved Rs 1 crore. “This amount would be utilized on the training of service providers,” he said.

Kumar said the trained guides would also be authorized to take tourists on a trip of religious and heritage sites in the city during the Mela. The guides, boatmen, vendors, shop owners etc would be issued a formal certificate after the training to prove their credentials.

The officer added that plans are afoot to make sure that these service providers don’t overcharge the devotees.

Kumbh Mela 2019 will be Historic, Says Yogi Adityanath

Allahabad Kumbh Mela 2019

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath appealed the countrymen Wednesday to attend next year’s Kumbh Mela at Allahabad in large numbers.

Kumbh Mela will begin in Allahabad on January 15, 2019.

“The coming Kumbh is going be historic and very special. For the first time in history, devotees would be able to dip not only at the confluence of Ganga and Yamuna, but they will also be able to feel the invisible Saraswati river,” he said.

“We are making efforts to open the gate of Prayag Fort where Saraswati is situated and we are talking with the Government of India and the Archaeological Survey of India for this purpose,” Adityanath said.

It is traditionally believed that the `invisible’ Saraswati river joins the confluence of Ganga and Yamuna at Allahabad, and it comes up in a temple at Allahabad (Prayag) Fort.

Adityanath said his government is going to invite the ambassador of every country in the world to the Mela.

“We will invite not only Indians living in foreign countries but also foreign nationals to be a part of the world’s largest congregation,” he said.

He was speaking at Sanskriti Kumbh, an event organised by Naimisharanya Foundation to discuss the significance of Kumbh Mela.

The main area of Kumbh Mela would be doubled from earlier 5,000 acres to 10,000 acres this time and 15 crore people are expected to attend it, the Uttar Pradesh chief minister said.

Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also attended the event, said Kumbh Mela is a symbol of faith and unity, and even UNESCO has recognised it.”Our culture is like the flowing water of Ganga which is old and pure and has also changed with time. This is why many cultures were vanquished but our culture is intact,” Fadnavis said.

UP Government to send invitations to 192 countries for Kumbh Mela

Kumbh Mela Allahabad

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath said on Monday his government will invite more than 190 countries around the world to the Kumbh Mela next year in Allahabad when millions will take a dip in the sacred waters of the Ganga.

“Kumbh is the biggest congregation of culture and faith on earth. Invitations are being sent to 192 countries for Kumbh Mela. The government is also making arrangements to ensure that at least two people from each of the six lakh villages of the country visit Kumbh,” Yogi said while inaugurating the two-day UP Travel Mart in Lucknow.

The chief minister is also personally extending an invitation to all visiting foreign dignitaries and has already invited the heads of countries he met during his foreign visits.

The state government is also planning to provide an international platform to Kumbh Mela through international tour operators, who have assembled in Lucknow for the fourth UP Travel Mart. Around 53 international tour operators from 23 countries and 19 prominent Indian tour operators are attending the event.

The nearly two-month-long Kumbh Mela will start from January 15 and end on Mahashivratri on March 4 next year. At least 150 million devotees and tourists are expected to attend the Kumbh Mela, which is among the 13 elements from India on UNESCO’s list of “intangible heritage”.

The festival has its origins in Hindu mythology which says Lord Vishnu wrested a golden pot containing the nectar of immortality from demons. Four drops fell on the four locations across India, in the cities of Allahabad, Haridwar, Ujjain and Nasik in a 12-day fight for possession. The Kumbh Mela is held at one of these spots every six years, with the festival at Allahabad the holiest of them all.

The Modi government has also directed all Indian ambassadors deputed in foreign countries to promote Kumbh Mela in their respective countries of posting. The Centre is also sending separate invites for Kumbh Mela through foreign ambassadors posted in India.

Commenting on the state’s tourist potential, Adityanath said the northern state would be the best destination for tourism in the country. “Five world heritage sites are in Agra alone,” he added.

The chief minister said there was immense eco-tourism potential in Dudhwa National Park in Lakhimpur Kheri district and Sonbhadra. He also spoke about the Ramayana, Krishna and Buddhist tourist circuits and air connectivity in the state while assuring security and adequate transportation facilities for tourists visiting the state.
