Sita Gufaa (Gumpha)
Nashik is known to have many caves, and one of the famous caves is the one called Sita Gufaa. People also refer to this cave as Sita Gumpha or Sita Gupha. These caves are named after Sita, who was the wife of Lord Ram. The caves were the place where she worshipped Lord Shiva during the exile period. Sita Gufaa ranks among the foremost tourist landmarks in Nashik. When you are completely inside Sita Gufa caves, you can do the darshan of Lord Ram, Sita, and Lakshman.
Tourists have to descend a narrow staircase to reach the interior of the cave. There is an ancient Shiv Linga, which has existed in the cave for many decades. You can also marvel at the five banyan trees, which have existed since Ramayana times. Sita Gufaa is located close to Kalaram Temple in Nashik.
There is a place called Tapovan near the cave. According to the mythological story, Lakshmana cut off the nose of Surparnakha at Tapovan. The entire chapter of Aranyakand of Ramayana was set here in the forested region known as Panchvati. You should make it a point to visit Sita Gufa caves in the city of Nashik. The sheer narrow tunnels in the cave will amaze you.
But once you are inside you will see various idols present here. Physically fit persons can enter this cave very easily. But if you are suffering from asthma, vertigo, hypertension, or heart or lung diseases, then you should not enter this tunnel. The sense of claustrophobia will grip you if you do so.
