Ramkund

This is a very sacred bathing tank in Nashik which is called Ramkund. You can view devotees having a holy dip in Ram Kund at most times. Ram Kund is located on the Godavari River banks. The name of Ram Kund comes from Lord Ram, who used to bathe here during his exile.

Ram Kund is also very special as it is the place for performing the last rites of one’s father. This practice comes from Lord Ram, who immersed the ashes of his father at Ram Kund. It is for this reason, that Ram Kund is also an important place for is the main bathing ghat during the Nashik Kumbh Mela. There are very good facilities at Ram Kund to enable people to bathe here. They can sit on the steps and then take a dip. There are walkways at Ram Kund with steps leading to the river water.

Ram Kund is the major river ghat for bathing in Nashik. It is situated in Panchvati Nashik. People come here to immerse the ashes and to do the final rites of their father. Asthi Vilaya Tirtha is another name for Ram Kund. It is also a very sacred spot in Nashik, because it is very closely linked to a mythological story from the Puranas. It is here that a drop of divine nectar (amrut) fell from the sky during the Samudra Manthan.

The Nashik Kumbh Mela is the main religious event which is celebrated here. Devotees gather at Ram Kund and take a holy dip in the sacred waters of Godavari. Devotees also visit Ramkund at the festive times like Ram Navami, Makar Sankranti, Maha Shivratri etc. The Aarti in the evening time at Ram Kund is a special occasion. Priests hold lighted lamps and chant prayers and hymns in praise of the gods. The aarti at Ram Kund is a must-attend event if you are in Nashik.
